Description
We love the wonderful vintage feel of this colorful, antique ferris wheel. When we were in the area, they were setting up a carnival, just north of the city of Cortez, Colorado. We were unable to stop, since we were on a tour, but we played hooky the next day and went back to take some photos. What fun! The workmen gave us some strange looks, but it was worth it!

In 1886, the town of Cortez was built to provide housing for the men working on the tunnels and irrigation ditches required to divert water out of the Dolores River and into Montezuma Valley. The town was named for Spanish conquistador Hernando Cortez. The City of Cortez is a popular stop for tourists, who do not necessarily tour the city, but stay there because of its central location among surrounding attractions, such as Mesa Verde National Park, Monument Valley, and the Four Corners.

The following are prehistoric sites in the Cortez area, several of which are listed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties and the National Register of Historic Places: Cowboy Wash, Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, Cortez Cultural Center, Hawkins Pueblo and cliff dwellings, Hovenweep National Monument in southwest Colorado and southeastern Utah, Lowry Ruin, McElmo Drainage Unit (AD 1075-1300), Cannonball Ruins, Maxwell Community, Roy's Ruin, Sand Canyon Archaeological District, Wallace Ruin, Mesa Verde National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mitchell Springs Archeological Site, also known as the Mitchell Springs Ruin Group, Mud Springs Pueblo, Yucca House National Monument

Marcia, This is my replacement photo for CFC Round #35 since I previously voted, commented and promoted your selection in Round #35 now. This photo has such fantastic colors to it the clarity of this photo is amazing and the background sky is amazing it appears to have been dropped into the photo. Love the old vintage rides and this one looks like it came off of the assembly line yesterday. Great details and a great angle that this photo was taken at. Excellent photo, voted, google, tweet, and FB promoted
