Description

I was picnicking at a lake (lago) in the Tuscany region of Italy, when I was charmed by this young boy walking towards us, totally unembarrassed by his nudity. He was wading by the edge of the water for a while, then turned and walked back towards his family. I decided to take some photos.

Once I returned home, I reviewed the photographs. I felt that the rocky beach and blue water were distracting, so I made some adjustments. I like the pastel orange background, which give the image a contemporary feel and eliminates the distraction of the beach and the water - the photo is not a seascape, it is totally about the unclothed child. Nothing is recognizable - the little boy, the lake, the water - he is a generic child - innocent and naive. His non-sexual nudity symbolizes this innocence.

The sunlight striking the little boy's bare behind (or "bum" as our friend said) adds to the charm of this artwork.
