Artist's Description
I spotted this interesting landscape photo while on a tour in Utah. I had to lay down in the mud to get the shot.
..... ...... ..... ......
The sandstone rock formation in this photograph is called Castle Butte, and it is located in a scenic wilderness area called Valley of the Gods. There is a 27-mile loop following paved and dirt/sand roads, which will awe you with it's colorful, desolate beauty. Buttes, spires, and sandstone idols with evocative names like Castle Butte, Seven Sailors, Southern Lady, and Rooster Butte will keep you company as you travel through this empty expanse of San Juan County. Valley of the Gods Road is 16.5 miles long, with the remaining 10.5 miles of the route following paved highways. General location: 20 miles west of Bluff, or 5 miles northwest of Mexican Hat.

About Alan Socolik
Alan and Marcia, Nevada residents, are avid photographers. Alan takes many photos while hiking around the area – you will see some of his dramatic landscape photos in our portfolio. Marcia looks at things from a different perspective – her photos are usually still life or photos of objects that she finds interesting or unique. Together, they present the eclectic display of photos which you see here. As you can see, Marcia is camera-shy - she would rather be behind the lens than in front of it.
